With a generous grant from the Embraer Foundation, DSACF will be offering a highly sought after program, Special Reads for Special Needs, in the fall of 2020. This will be the second time offering this program, lead by award-winning author and international speaker Natalie Haile, Special Reads for Special Needs teaches “reading for meaning.”
The Special Reads for Special Needs program is designed for use by parents, educators, homeschoolers, and school systems. The curriculum is both evidence- and research-based and uses simple strategies about how our children with developmental delays learn most easily and naturally. The program uses a brain-friendly format that’s easily “seen” and retained. Materials can be adapted for learners of any age who are reading at a third-grade level or below. Special sections are included on teaching children who are nonverbal, learners who have the dual diagnosis of Down syndrome/autism, as well as sections on comprehension, fluency, and “Errorless Testing.”
The grant also includes exciting upgrades to DSACF’s Success Center including the installation of a swing set, water filtration system and building security locks!
