On Monday, January 20th, Down Syndrome Association was awarded a grant from Siemens Energy’s “Positive Energy” campaign. Every year, the company awards various local organizations the opportunity to receive up to $10,000. Organizations are asked to submit a video and encourage supporters to “like” their mission. “The Positive Energy Campaign was aimed at providing donations to local charities that make a clear impact on their respective communities, especially in a year when the COVID-19 pandemic has created an increase in basic human needs across society.”
DSACF stated, “on behalf of DSACF we thank Siemens Energy and all of our friends and families who were committed to this campaign and gave us those ‘likes’. We couldn’t have done it without you.” The grant was awarded to assist DSACF to fulfill its mission throughout the year through a number of programs and resources available to families who have a loved one with Down syndrome. These include a number of programs such as group classes dealing with essential early intervention building blocks along the lines of sign, music or occupational therapy; New Family Celebration, New Parent Baskets and hospital outreach; Family & Community Group Events to connect parents and children with each other; Educational Workshops to empower parents with the tools to nurture and care for the unique needs of raising a child with Down syndrome; Social Skills classes for teens with Down syndrome to prepare them for adulthood; Social gatherings and programming for adult self-advocates; and so much more!
Siemens employee and member of DSACF, Zach Zahab stated “The Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida plays a vital role in supporting individuals with Down Syndrome reach their full potential in life, and I’m proud that the grant from the Siemens Energy Positive Energy Program will help to extend that ongoing support.” A huge thank you to the Zahab family!
